The modern world makes new demands on the personality, social and emotional skills (SES) become more important, determining various aspects of well-being. This work is devoted to establishing the connection between the characteristics of parental behavior and the social-emotional skills of managing emotions in adolescents aged 15-16 years. The research was based on the theoretical model of the “Big Five”. Within the framework of this model, the management of emotions can be described through the following skills: optimism, stress resistance and emotional control. Parental behavior in our study is presented through such characteristics as: the ability to listen and understand the adolescent, the manifestation of cruelty and severity, and also through the frequency of encouraging positive behavior of the adolescent. The sample consisted of 2,056 teenage parent dyads who participated in the SSES-2019 (Study of Social and Emotional Skills). The study used the following methods: factorial, psychometric, correlation and regression analyzes. The result of the work is two developed scales of parenting behavior with good psychometric indicators, as well as two indices of positive characteristics of the mother and father. The results of the analysis confirm that the positive characteristics of the parents are positive, and the negative characteristics and encouragement have a negative effect on the development of the skills of managing emotions in adolescents aged 15-16. The resulting scales can be further used for research purposes, and the results of the analysis will be useful both for specialists working with intrafamily relationships and for developing practical recommendations for parents of adolescents
