Methodology
Evaluating data quality
After an experiment in the first and second modules of the 2015/16 academic year that involved several graduate programmes, we evaluated the quality and the dynamics of the data we received.
When is the Teaching Quality Assessment conducted?
The Teaching Quality Assessment is conducted in every module. An assessment form is made available for students three weeks prior to the examination period; the assessment closes the day before the exams begin.
What subjects take part in the assessment?
The list includes courses in which students have an examination in the current module or receive a grade as part of an interim assessment.
How is the list of teachers formed?
The list of teachers in a subject is formed on the basis of the online scheduling system. If a teacher has taught classes, his or her name will be reflected in the form. Seminars and lectures are assessed separately, which means that if a teacher conducts both seminars and lectures, students will be first offered to assess their teaching at lectures, and then at seminars.
What criteria do students use to assess teachers and courses?
The assessment criteria for courses are as follows:
- Practical value of the course for a student’s future career;
- Practical value of the course for broadening a student’s horizons and diversified personal development;
- Novelty of knowledge gained in the course;
- Difficulty of successfully completing the course.
- The assessment criteria for teachers are as follows:
- Clarity of requirements to students;
- Clarity and consistency of study materials;
- Communication between teachers and their audience;
- Teachers’ availability for extracurricular discussion of any academic issues.
