At MSc Financial Economics Open Day, prospective applicants were able to learn more about how the programme sets itself apart from its counterparts, how to enroll, and what level of math and language training it expects from applicants. Invited to speak were also programme graduates. They spoke about things that help kick-start careers in banking and consulting.

Valentin Stepanov, who is in his first year of master’s studies at ICEF, got his graduate paper The impact of innovation news coverage on illiquid stocks: the case of the US market accepted by the European Journal of Innovation Management. Guiding Valentin’s research was Professor Elena Fedorova of HSE University. The HSE University has summed up the results of its Student Research Paper Competition-2022, held among students and graduates. For the representatives of ICEF, this contest was yet another proof of their excellent performance. Four won prizes as best finance and economics papers, three more received an honourable mention. This year’s competition among participants was greater than ever: since 2021 the authors of the winning papers receive a special scholarship from HSE for exceptional academic achievements.

Jamila Fomina earned her Master’s in Financial Economics from ICEF in 2020 and her bachelor’s from HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. Cryptocurrencies have fallen to two-year low after FTX exchange filed for bankruptcy in November 2022, sending shock waves through the crypto world and agitating investors to revise their strategies and predictions as to what will happen on the digital investment market. In her talk called Cryptocurrencies and NFT, Victoria Dobrynskaya explained the volatility of crypto markets and expanded on the phenomenon of NFT as a digital asset.
