From July 21 to 23, HSE University's atrium on Pokrovsky Bulvard hosted a stage of the Russian Chess Grand Prix—a major event bringing together over 250 participants from five countries and 44 regions across Russia. It was also attended by eight grandmasters, six international masters and 26 FIDE masters.
HSE University served not only as the competition venue but also as the organiser of a parallel intellectual programme. The Intellectual Games Centre of the HSE Corporate Academy arranged a simultaneous chess exhibition, a master class, and a creative discussion with support from HSE Chess. In addition, a board game zone was set up in collaboration with the student organisation 'Place of Contact'.
Artiom Akhmetov
Chief Arbiter of the tournament, Executive Director of the Moscow Chess Federation
— The tournament brought together over a hundred talented young chess players, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the country’s leading university. I am certain that this experience will inspire many of them to apply and pursue their studies at HSE University. Events like this are a direct investment in Russia's intellectual capital.
Rafail Aindinov
Director, Intellectual Games Centre, HSE Corporate Academy
— We are confident that our collaboration with the Chess Federation has been a success. The tournament activities engaged not only guests, but also HSE University students and staff, allowing them to experience the spirit and scale of events like the Russian Grand Prix. We will continue to promote intellectual initiatives, support internal communities, and look forward to new opportunities for collaboration.
