HSE’s IT Department Wins Project of the Year Competition with its New MyHSE Services Account Project

The IT Department’s priority project to create a new MyHSE Services (or Unified Personal Account - UPA) system for HSE won the ‘Project of the Year’ competition (in the category of education), which was organized by Global CIO, a professional association of IT directors in Russia.

The Global CIO competition is the most respected competition in the Russian national IT community, insofar as the project rankings, unlike those of other competitions, are determined only by registered IT directors. IT service and equipment suppliers do not participate in the vote, and there is no designated jury that influences the final rankings. This year, over 1,500 IT directors from professional IT associations all over Russia participated in the vote. Projects were ranked according to their complexity and their impact on the IT industry in general.

According to Andrey Shevtsov, Senior Director for Information Technology, the project is unique in terms of its size (it is estimated to accommodate over 300,000 users by 2020), its  complexity of integration (the project offers Single Sign-On access to  30 information systems of all generations and types, including those  developed on site as well as  big industrial platforms such as Documentum, MS Dynamics, K2 BlackPearl BPM, and Moodle), and its hybrid authorization system (Active Directory, MS Azure, and dozens of systems have their own original authorization models). The university-wide migration of users to the MyHSE Services Account will need to be completed without any interruption in the systems’ operations. Additionally, in order to provide financial services, it was necessary to introduce a simple digital signature and require university staff to sign a digital agreement with the university.

An integrated information and service space, now realized in the new personal account, is an important step in the digitalization of the university. It not only integrates information systems and data from disparate point-to-point business processes at HSE, but, more significantly, creates a more comfortable and effective environment for education and research.
