MIEM Hosts ‘We Draw the World on the Pavement’ Festival

On September 30, 2017 the art festival ‘We Draw the World on the Pavement’, took place at HSE MIEM. Almost all teams were from HSE. Students who specialize in electronics, mathematics, psychology, economics, programming, sociology, management, business informatics, computer security, design and advertising took part in the event. Two teams of schoolchildren also participated in the festival.

The festival was a complete success, the atmosphere was friendly and fun, and the number of participants and the quality of works were impressive. Children and younger visitors not only had the chance to learn more about art, but also to learn more about science at the MIEM building.

A total of 13 teams created 14 drawings that will remain bright and visible on the pavement for a long time, took part in the event.

The jury had a difficult job selecting the winners, but after intense deliberation made the final decision to grant first place to the team ‘Mary Poppins can’t handle us’. Their piece ‘HSE Planet’ combined the symbol of peace and the HSE crow with images of campuses in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, and Nizhny Novgorod.

The team ‘Integrating the World’ took second place with their bright air balloon featuring lyrics from the chart-topping late 1990s song Vyhoda Net by Russian rock group Splean. The team ‘Fairies’ took third place with a drawing dedicated to international friendship. This team brought together HSE students from different countries, and that was something they sought to represent in their drawing.

The jury was also impressed by the work by the ‘Nemalevichi’ team, who drew a piece of conceptual art that is open to a variety of interpretations of the symbols it incorporates.

The team led by Sergey Rudenko, Deputy Head of the administrative and study complex in Strogino, has created an interesting work in sunset colors and restored a legendary 3D drawing from the previous festival.
