ID Lab members published the study on the impact of Economic Freedom in the region on the companies performance in Russia
ID Lab members Dennis Coates and Anna Bykova published the research on the impact of Economic Freedom of Russian regions on companies performance in one of the leading international journals. Professor Coates is also one of the authors who adapted and calculated the Index of Economic Freedom for the regions of Russian Federation.
‘The Sports Market Will Survive, Although It’ll Be Cast Back to Where It Was Years Ago’
On July 3, 2020, the 4th Eastern Conference on Football Economics and the 6th Western Conference on Football and Finance were held. Jointly organized by HSE University, the University Paderborn, the New Economic School, the EWG OR in Sports, and the University of Reading, the conference was dedicated to the economic, financial and social aspects of football. Some of the organizers and participants of the conference spoke to the HSE News Service about the conference and their research.

Australian Teacher Trainer James Thomas Conducts Refresher Training Course for HSE Perm Faculty
Last week Australian teacher trainer James Thomas visited HSE Perm at the invitation of Elizaveta Smirnova, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages. From 24 to 27 September, James conducted a refresher training course on “English as a Medium of Instruction” for the HSE Perm faculty.
Anna Bykova Delivers Joint Research at University of Maryland
On February 23, Anna Bykova, Research Fellow of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy (ID Lab), presented joint research with Dennis Coates, on “Economic freedom and its influence on the performance of Russian companies”. The paper was presented at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, US.
How to Benefit from Foreign Investments: They Do Not Guarantee Success in Themselves
Research fellows from HSE-Perm’s International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy (ID Lab) Anna Bykova and Carlos Jardon found out that in order to get maximum use from foreign partners, Russian companies need to invest in intellectual resources.

On 18 December, at the seminar organized under the authority of ECOBUS at the University of Vigo, Anna Bykova, Associate Professor of the School of Economics and Finance, Research Fellow of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy, presented the findings of the research conducted together with Carlos Jardon – “The mediation role of companies’ dynamic capabilities for business performance excellence: insights from foreign direct investments”.
What Mitigates the Consequences of Recession for Companies?
HSE experts demonstrated that companies with foreign participation have an easier time overcoming the consequences of economic recessions. The results of the study were presented in the paper ‘Lean against the wind: The moderation effect of foreign investments during the economic recession in Russia’ published by the Journal of Economics and Business.
HSE Researchers Take Part in ‘Economics of Football’ Conference
On June 23-24, the international conference ‘Economics of Football’ was held in Kazan. This event was organized by the Higher School of Economics (HSE), the New Economic School and Kazan Federal University. Angel Barajas, Dennis Coates, Elena Shakina, Petr Parshakov, Iuliia Naidenova and Anna Bykova, staff members of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy, participated in the conference. The researchers presented papers and worked as moderators, discussants and key speakers at various sessions and workshops.
ID Lab Workshop
On the 10th of November Anna Bykova presented her preliminary results from the investigation of the corporate performance gap between foreign- and domestic-owned firm and proposed to the members of the Lab the idea of a new paper about the impact of market power on Innovation for Russian companie in order to receive any advices about dependent variable and specification.
