Learning Management System (LMS)

Students use SmartLMS to:

• Study training materials
• Perform different types of academic activities (upload assignments, term papers, pass tests)
• Communicate with teachers, study offices and other students
• Check their grades for academic activities completed there

Instructors use SmartLMS to:

• Share training materials
• Assess students’ knowledge with tests
• Maintain students’ performance logs
• Collect and store individual student or group assignments (essays, term papers, projects etc.)
• Communicate with students and advise them

Study offices use SmartLMS to:

• Check students’ registration for courses and their performance log
• Communicate with students and consult them
• Publish announcements and add events

An electronic grade book is available in the student’s personal account in LMS. To check it, please click on 'Tools' => 'Personal info' => 'Student’s grade book'. There you will see your final grades for all the completed courses once they are available.

SET is mandatory, meaning that all students must complete it, since these results can be more reliable than the feedback from just a handful of successful students. The responses are fully anonymous – students have the opportunity to leave truthful and thorough comments, while instructors and administrators can make decisions based on the summarized data.

SET is held four times a year at the end of each module and lasts three weeks before the exam period. The SET form features questions on the quality of teaching and the organization of regular courses, MOOCs, project activities, and educational process in general.

SEPA is an annual questionnaire where students evaluate the quality of educational processes and the role of programmes’ academic supervisors, managers and study offices, as well as the performance of faculty and other related University services.

HSE Faculty and the University’s administration use SEPA results to improve support for educational programmes, as well as to make staffing decisions.

Students must select their term paper topics and submit them for approval by the deadline stipulated by their faculty (no later than December 1). They can also propose their own term paper topics and choose supervisors from any department of any HSE faculty, as long as they observe the deadlines. A topic may be changed no later than one month before the final deadline for term paper submission (no later than May 30).

The submission of the final version of a term paper is done by uploading it to LMS by the deadline stipulated by the faculty.

Thesis is part of Final State Certification at HSE University. The topic of a thesis must be selected and approved by the deadline stipulated by the faculty (no later than December 1).

The deadline and procedure for uploading a final thesis version to LMS, along with the information on options, timeframe and procedure for uploading a presentation for a thesis defence, shall be both published and mailed out to students.

The submission of the final version of a thesis is done by uploading it to LMS (no hard copy is needed). It shall be published no later than 30 (thirty) calendar days prior to the first final state examination.

Students who do not meet the deadline for uploading a thesis shall be dismissed from the University for failure to complete the Final State Certification. Learn more about it here.
