HSE Expert Takes Part in BRICS Youth Forum in South Africa

An expert from HSE University’s Foreign Affairs Analytical Support Centre of the International Partnerships Office took part in the second Africa-BRICS Youth Forum

Fyodor Alekseev, an expert from HSE University’s Foreign Affairs Analytical Support Centre of the International Partnerships Office, took part in the second Africa-BRICS Youth Forum, presenting a paper at the session
‘Just Equitable Energy Transition: Sustainable Energy Generation and Security in the Global South’. The forum was held in Pretoria, South Africa, just ahead of the BRICS Summit, and brought together representatives of student organisations and young experts from the five BRICS countries.

The event was organised by the South African BRICS Youth Association (SABYA) in collaboration with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and the Innovation Centre of South Africa. The forum offers young African and BRICS leaders a platform to discuss current international issues and develop proposals for cultivating global partnerships.

The forum’s programmes consisted of two panel discussions, one concerning efforts to form a common trade space in Africa, the other covering issues related to climate change.

‘We had a very constructive and frank conversation,’ notes Fyodor Alekseev, adding: ‘The quality of the analysis, discussions and proposals were not that of a youth conference, but rather a high quality “mature” expert event.’

By the forum’s conclusion, the participants had prepared practical proposals, which will be considered when key decisions are made regarding youth issues during the 15th BRICS Summit, which is slated for August 22–24 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
