Huaming Park: Experience Chinese Tranquillity in Moscow

Huaming Park: Experience Chinese Tranquillity in Moscow

Photos by Venera Alikhotzhina and Elizaveta Antonenko

Do you want to explore Chinese culture and see its traditional architecture without leaving Moscow? Then Huaming Park is definitely worth a visit! It is a perfect place for those who want to escape the city and enjoy the serenity of the landscaped garden.

The traditional Chinese park opened in spring 2023. Besides the garden, the territory is also home to a business centre, the Soluxe Hotel Moscow, and an upscale restaurant. At the same time, visitors to the garden can still experience its tranquil atmosphere and feel at one with nature. Huaming Park resembles part of the Imperial Garden in the heart of Beijing—if you compare the photos, you will be impressed by their similarity. In order to create such an authentic space, specialists from China were involved in designing the park.

Visitors can see exquisite gazebos, a marble bridge, limestone brought from China, and a great diversity of plants that are unusual for the Moscow region. At the entrance, the central arch frames a the view of a picturesque pond with water lilies and the flowing branches of a willow tree. Guests can also enter the park from the other side, where a statue of Confucius welcomes them. There are several pavilions where exhibitions are held from time to time, and you can also find information boards in Russian and Chinese. There is also a long wooden pathway for visitors to take a walk in the forest area of the park.

Interesting facts:

  • The curved roofs of the gazebos and other buildings of the park are a traditional Chinese cultural feature designed to protect buildings from rainwater.
  • At the entrance, there are two qilins with scarlet bows around their necks. A qilin is a revered hooved creature from Chinese mythology resembling a Chinese dragon with antlers, a mane, and a beard. The partially scaled body can resemble a deer, a horse, or a goat with a tail of an ox. Qilins symbolise prosperity and longevity and are believed to bring luck.
  • Characters from Chinese mythology can be found carved on marble or on the roofs.
  • There is an artificially constructed system of streams in the park.
  • The park is illuminated every evening to highlight all the key attractions.
