Cultural and Historical Heritage Days, May 20

The City Excursion Bureau is offering free tours around the Moscow Government House (Moscow Governor-General House) and Petrovsky Palace on May 20. These two historical buildings are used by the Moscow Government and Mayor as administrative and official venues, and are usually closed to the public. On the Cultural and Historical Heritage Days, however, they open their doors to visitors wanting to look behind the scenes. Registration opens on May 10.

Register by phone +7 495 637 70 05 starting from May 10, on workdays, from 10 am to 6 pm. To register, you will need the names and passport information of all the participants.

Moscow Government House (Moscow Governor-General House)

A thrilling story of a magnificent building in the centre of Moscow – the former Governor-General’s House, currently occupied by the Moscow Government. The excursion includes a tour around the third floor of the historical building created by architect Matvey Kazakov in the 18th century. Visitors will enjoy the official halls of the Moscow authorities’ residence, the Empire-style interiors and painted ceilings.

Meeting place: 13 Tverskaya Ulitsa, Entrance 2; 15 mins before the session start; only with prior registration. Bring your passport with you.

Petrovsky Palace

Petrovsky Palace was built in the 18th century for Catherine the Great, and was used by the royal family as the last stop before the entrance to Moscow on the long way from the then capital, St. Petersburg. In 1812, Napoleon stayed here, and after the 1917 revolution, the palace hosted a military aviation academy. The palace has undergone an extensive reconstruction, and today operates as a hotel and a venue for official events organized by the Moscow Government.

Northern entrance to the palace (10 m on the left from the central entrance, an arch between the first two towers). Please come only if you have registered and arrive 15 min before the session. Bring your passport with you.
