Comparative Analysis of the English Language State Exam Formats (Russia and Tajikistan)

As the title implies the article describes the format of national school leaving exams in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan. Currently, school graduates in Russia take the Unified State Exam (USE), while Tajik graduates pass Centralized Examination Entrance (CEE). The current article is aimed at presenting the obtained results of comparative analysis of USE and CEE, namely of the part which evaluates the Tajik and Russian graduates English language skills. It gives a detailed analysis of each exam. In addition, it describes the place of USE in the Russian educational system and gives the general information of CEE in the Tajik educational system. It depicts the main characteristics of USE and CEE and provides a detailed analysis of the structure and content of the English part of USE and CEE. Common and distinctive features of the format of national school leaving exams in Russia and Tajikistan are revealed on the basis of the comparative analysis method. Attempts are made to define the main strengths and weaknesses of CEE and to give recommendations for its improvement. The article is of great aid to the format of national school leaving exam in the Republic of Tajikistan. It can contribute to understanding and finding solutions of the "problem areas" in the existing English language exam in Tajikistan. Moreover, it will help to further development of standardized tests in this area.
