Moving Forward with the Assessment of Attractiveness of Conducting Clinical Trials in India, China and Russia

Context. Globalisation of clinical trials has caused expanding of conducting clinical trials all over the world. Emerging countries are becoming preferred destinations for conducting clinical trials from the point of view of cost efficiency and fast patient recruitment. In 2009 A. T. Kearney has developed Index of Country Attractiveness Index for Clinical Trials for providing pharmaceutical companies with hard data-driven analysis of low-cost emerging countries. According to A. T. Kearney India, China and Russia has become the most attractive clinical trials destinations. However, the Index was not updated and there are no information about how the attractiveness of these countries has changed or did not changed. Objective. This aim of this paper is to discover the way in which attractiveness of developing countries changed or did not changed in the ten years prior to 2019. Method. A systematic literature review and comparative empirical analysis were conducted to assess attractiveness to conduct clinical trials in India, China and Russia in the ten years prior to 2019. Results. China is still top leading destination among low-cost countries due to improved legislation and vast patient pool, India has lost its top position because of tremendous violation of patient rights, Russia – because of unclear, not sufficient regulatory conditions.
