Analysis of the Attractiveness of the Hotel Industry in Moscow in the Segment of Mini-Hotels

As a result of the 2020 pandemic, the borders of many countries are closed for inbound tourism indefinitely. A similar situation is associated with the closure of the borders of the Russian Federation for the entry of foreign tourists. In addition, the suspension of activities of many companies in various sectors of the economy had a negative impact on the incomes of the Russian population. According to expert estimates, the combination of these factors leads to the fact that at the end of 2020, the beginning of 2021, domestic Russian tourist flows will increase, moreover, in the segment of relatively inexpensive accommodation facilities, in particular, in the segment of mini-hotels. In connection with these circumstances, the study of the attractiveness of the hotel industry in the segment of mini-hotels from the point of view of the entry of new players is extremely important. The purpose of this study is to determine the attractiveness of the hotel industry in the city of Moscow in the segment of mini-hotels in terms of the entry of new players. The object of this study is the hotel industry in the segment of mini-hotels in Moscow. The subject of this work is the attractiveness of the industry in the segment of mini-hotels in Moscow. The analysis was carried out directly for a group of mini-hotels selected by building a map of strategic groups. Achieving this goal requires solving the following main tasks: 1. To study the theoretical aspects of the analysis of industry attractiveness 2. To systematize the concepts of “industry attractiveness”, “hospitality industry”, “mini-hotels” 3. To identify macro environment factors affecting the activities of companies in the mini-hotel segment 4. To determine the main characteristics of the industry in the segment of mini-hotels 5. Conduct a competitive analysis of the industry in the studied segment 6. Identify the main driving forces of the hotel industry in the segment of mini - hotels 7. To determine the attractiveness of this segment in terms of entry of new players To conduct this study, the following methodology is used: a qualitative analysis of academic and business sources, conducting PEST - analysis of the mini-hotel segment, identifying the main economic characteristics of the industry in the segment, building a map of strategic groups, conducting a competitive analysis based on the 5-member model of M. Porter, identifying driving forces of the mini-hotel segment and determining the overall attractiveness of the hotel industry in the studied segment. The result of this work is the formulation of conclusions about the attractiveness of the hotel industry in the mini-hotel segment for companies considering entering the segment.
