The issue of translating realia presents a great number of research challenges, and investigating creative translation decisions in rendering realia has been of the utmost importance. This study aims to comprehend how translators of the mystery stories make creative translation decisions rendering realia and to juxtapose their decisions. The research material for this study will be the mystery stories by A. Christie and G.K. Chesterton and their translated-into-Russian versions. In this investigation, there will also be identified a correlation between the concept of creative translation decisions of Ubozhenko and the typology of translation transformations of Komissarov. The methods of contextual analysis, classification and comparative analysis will be employed to examine the empirical base of the study. The identified correlation between the abovementioned theoretical bases will provide a deeper understanding of the topic and help elaborate a list of recommendations on how to translate realia in the texts of the mystery genre.
