Translation as Production Process: the Occupational Standard Case

With the digitalization growing every day, people tend to consume more and more content: music, electronic books, audiobooks, movies, series and videogames. Nowadays, every average human of different country and age has television set, cellphone, computer, tablet, or everything at once. The international markets demand non-stop content and wish to perceive it as if it was created in their home country. Such tendency leads to the inevitable rethinking of translation concept: we do not need just a sense transferred to the target language. Now we look for the text interpreted for a special auditory, regarding their cultural, religious, political, social beliefs. Such product and process is called localization, and plenty of content production companies need it on the top level in order to maximize their profit. The term “linguistic localization” and the whole phenomenon is new, thus there are very little researches made on this topic. One of them considers previous studies and has the project “the Occupational Standard Case” as a result. This field develops constantly, that is why the present paper aims at investigating how actual and sufficient the professional standard is, based on qualitative research methods as case-study and literature analysis. This research may contribute to supplementing the professional standard and better understanding of how to teach localization. Keywords: localization, project management, occupational case
