The method of using information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the learning process is attracting considerable interest due to the active development of such an education system, which is focused on integration into the international educational information space. A considerable number of studies have aimed to demonstrate the diversity of forms and methods of working with ICTs. However, there is a dearth of empirical research that has been carried out to determine the effectiveness of using computer technologies. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the effectiveness of using ICTs on an academic writing course and explore the features of the use of academic vocabulary by students in academic texts in English. In the course of the research a discipline in academic English was created on a multimedia platform. It was tested on one of the experimental groups of students, while the other group was taught by teachers using traditional methods. The two groups were assessed after a period of instruction. Results of the assessment showed significant differences between the two groups: the group that used the multimedia platform performing much better on all aspects of the test. The experimental introduction of ICTs in the system of foreign language teaching has proved that it allows to intensify the educational process and improve the results of assimilation of learning material.
