The Neurolinguistics Lab reaches beyond the Polar Circle

The conference took place in the Heart of Finnish Lapland on April, 2-5

Two of our lab members - Olga Dragoy and Nikolay Novitskiy - have recently presented their research in Finnish Lapland. Olga Dragoy gave a talk on "Processing spatial linguistic constructions by monolingual and bilingual speakers of Russian" and Nikolay Novitskiy presented his paper "ERP effects of cross-linguistic phonologic and semantic overlap in L2 acquisition: evidence for shared bilingual lexicon". The conference "Learning and Plasticity" took place in Äkäslompolo (a village on the northern side of the Ylläs Fell), requiring the participants to test their own cognitive placticity by getting to the venue on a kick-sled! Those demonstrating sufficient trainability and flexibility were rewarded with the honour of giving their talk at one of the most exotic presentation stands – a Lappish wooden lectern!
