The all-Russia prize ‘For Loyalty to Science’ is awarded annually for outstanding achievements in the fields of science communication, science popularisation, and enhancing the prestige of the activities of scientists and engineers in Russia. The prize is held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology and is organised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The expert council of the 9th All-Russia Prize for Loyalty to Science has finalised the shortlist of nominees (in Russian).

HSE University is represented in the following categories:

  • ‘Best Student Popular Science Project’ for the HSE Science Battles intellectual competition
  • ‘Science for the World’ for the international, English-language version of the IQ.HSE science and education website
  • ‘Special Prize for the Popularisation of Russian Science’ for the documentary film 2052: See the Future (a joint project between HSE University and the RT television channel)

The winners will be announced in October 2023. They will receive a cash prize and special reward from the competition’s partners, including a trip on a nuclear icebreaker, a tour of a Russian cosmodrome, and a visit to the Irkut Corporation Engineering Centre in Moscow. Prize winners will also have the opportunity to attend the Third Young Scientists Congress—one of the key events in the Decade of Science and Technology.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation

We are seeing a growing interest in the scientific profession as a result of the Decade of Science and Technology. Popular-science bloggers and programmes also play a significant role in this. This year’s shortlist, which has been whittled down from more than a thousand applications, contains a wide range of formats and topics for media projects, including international ones. Russian science has been and always will be in demand and open to the global community, as demonstrated by the nominations in the ‘Science for the World’ category. I wish all the nominees fair assessments and great achievements.

The 9th all-Russian prize ‘For Loyalty to Science’ received a total of 1,213 applications from 78 regions in Russia. More than 400 of these came from Moscow and the Moscow region. The applications have been assessed by science journalists, scientists, government representatives, private foundations, companies, non-profit organisations, university press services, and research institutes. The winners will be decided by the organising committee.
