Ambassador Gives Lecture to Students of HSE Nizhny Novgorod

On the 10th of September, the Higher School of Economics received a lecture entitled 'Luxembourg: the European Fate of a Small State' from Pierre Ferring, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation, and Pierre Frank, Head of the Department of Investment Policy and Foreign Economic Activity of the Ministry of Economics.

Mr Ferring spoke about the unique nature of his country, located right at the heart of Europe and formed under the influence of two extremely powerful cultures, the French and the German.

The lecture was a remarkable opportunity for HSE students to not only hear about Luxembourg’s history, culture, science and economics, but also to talk with the state’s representatives. Students were particularly interested in the linguistic and cultural situation: which language the visitors consider their native tongue, and what stereotypes and images of are common in their country.

The ambassador especially gave attention to the development of the linguistic component in the structure of contemporary higher education.
