Report on Sheila Fitzpatrick's speech given on 25 November at the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences

Humans experience a wide array of Disasters. Such disasters wreak utter havoc and provoke extensive large-scale devastation. They also carry extremely serious financial repercussions for nations, organizations and thousands of people. In addition, there is often also significant loss of life and infrastructure and property destruction. Therefore the study of dynamics of such disasters is an important and worthwhile endeavor, with huge benefits for nations, organizations, companies and individuals. On November 27, Alena Khaptsova, a doctorate student in the department of Organizational Psychology at HSE and a researcher at the Laboratory for Socio-cultural research, took part in the “Culture matters” seminar.

On November 25, 2014, Professor Juan-Pablo Ortega (Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon, France) spoke on 'Option pricing and hedging with heteroscedastic underlying price processes. Discrete and continuous time approaches' at the ILQF research seminar.

On November 24, 2014, Professor Dean Fantazzini (HSE) spoke on 'Long Memory and Periodicity in Intraday Volatility' at the ILQF regular research seminar.

Professor William Pyle from Middlebury Collage gave a seminar about research into Russia's business lobby. In 2014, together with Finnish economist Laura Solanko, he received the National Award for Applied Economics, which was established by organizations including the HSE.

New issue (№ 11) of the journal “Sociological studies” contains a section of articles by LCSR researchers.
