The programme adopts a fully practice-oriented approach to learning.
Training is structured to maximise effectiveness: there is an emphasis on individual learning approaches and continuous practice—including the supervision of consulting and coaching activities. Students attend workshops, master classes, and supervised sessions, as well as review authentic business cases to acquire solid professional skills in psychoanalytical business consulting.

- Business consultants and coaches looking to acquire psychoanalytical and counselling skills for practical application at various levels of management and with various organisations
- Practicing psychologists and psychotherapists
- HR directors and professionals
- Managers in private and state-owned enterprises with an interest in exploring new and prestigious professions
Classes take place at the main HSE University campus at 20 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa (Chistye Prudy and Lubyanka Metro stations). Students also take part in consulting sessions as part of individual advisory practice in the office at 8 Pokrovsky Bulvar.
The programme provides a deep understanding of psychoanalysis and organisational behaviour. Students will come to understand the basis of human behaviour and deep motivations, as well as learn how to view organisations from the perspective of both interpersonal and intrapersonal interactions. The programme teaches the competencies required to identify and manage the hidden dynamics of teams and organisations, and considerable attention is paid to the development and dynamics of leadership. Students will master organisational change management skills, including individual coaching of executives, as well as the creation and development of an effective organisational culture.
The programme is international in its nature and outlook.
Training is directed by Manfred F.R. Kets de Vries, professor at the French business school INSEAD. He is a renowned expert in the fields of management, psychoanalysis and business consulting and has years of excellence in the profession. He has worked with top managers at Volvo, KPMG, Heineken, AirLiquide, Alcatel, Shell, BP, Unilever, Standard Bank of South Africa, General Electric Capital, Nokia, Bonnier, Rank Xerox, Investec, SEDCO, SHV, Accenture Consulting, Bain Consulting, Bang & Olufsen, Goldman Sachs International, Lego, TNK BP, Troika Dialog, Sibur, Russian Standard, and others. In addition, regular workshops and supervision from leading executive coaches from the European Global Leadership Centre give students unique international experience and practice in business consulting.
The competencies gained in the programme are well-suited for conducting personal coaching sessions for executives and managers, building effective HR management in companies, team building, staff development, training, and private consulting practice. Psychoanalytical coaching employs the full range of modern psychoanalytical techniques. An important aspect of the work involves revealing the unconscious mental processes that influence behaviour and career dynamics.
Psychoanalytical business consulting focuses not only on individual leaders, but also on team dynamics in order to achieve the most effective change in an organisation. The focus is not only on the rational dimensions of life (eg, mission, vision, objectives, strategies, activities, tasks, roles, selection process, control system, etc), but also on factors such as corporate values, the structure of power and influence, group psychodynamics, interpersonal relationships, stress responses, unconscious motivations, and more.
People’s behaviour in organisations primarily depends on their perception of their inner motivations and the scenarios under which they form values, beliefs and views. Psychoanalytical research helps to achieve a better understanding of these processes, revealing obstacles to employee development and thereby achieving effective team performance.
Students acquire invaluable personal development experience, self-knowledge, and leadership qualities.
The programme promotes personal growth: greater self-awareness and the capacity for reflection greatly enhance graduates’ potential to work with and manage other people.
The programme successfully integrates clinical approaches with psychoanalytical and organisational psychology. The combination of extensive knowledge of psychology with international best HR management practices enables graduates of the programme to implement new and innovative business consulting practices in organisations.
After two years of training, students are awarded a Master of Psychology degree from HSE University. Students can enrol in the programme without a prior background in psychology.
The language of instruction is Russian. Lectures and workshops that include foreign experts and business consultants are translated into Russian.
