How International Students Can Receive Scholarships at HSE

How International Students Can Receive Scholarships at HSE

© HSE

HSE offers several scholarships that allow international students to cover part of their tuition fees in both undergraduate and graduate programmes. Scholarships are offered as a tuition discount for international students and take effect at the time of their enrolment in HSE. The scholarships are granted for the full period of studies. They cover up to 70% of tuition fees in undergraduate programmes and up to 50% of tuition at the master’s level. Information on how to receive these scholarships can be found below.

Undergraduate Programmes

The most obvious way to receive a scholarship is to score highly on the entrance exams. Depending on the sum of the scores on the two exams, the scholarship may cover up to 70% (170 points or more), 50% (150-169 points) or 25% (130-149 points in most programmes) of the tuition fee. Note that you can also submit an international exam certificate in English and/or Maths if those are the required subjects for the programme of your choice.

Another way to get a scholarships is to participate in HSE Olympiads (International Youth Olympiad and Vysshaya Proba competitions).

25% scholarships are offered to graduates of the HSE Preparatory Year for international students, as well as preparatory programmes of other Russian universities and HSE partner schools.

There are some restrictions on the availability of scholarships – they do not cover programmes that enrol only fee-paying students. However, such programmes may offer their own scholarships. For instance, HSE ICEF provides scholarships for applicants of its University of London Double-degree programme in Economics. Contact International Admissions office for more information on the scholarships and the application process.

Master’s Programmes

Scholarships can be offered to the students who receive high scores in the portfolio competition: 50% to those who earn 75 points or more, and 25% for those who score 60-74 points.

Graduates of HSE undergraduate programmes receive a 25% scholarship.

A 25% scholarship can also be offered to graduates of the HSE Preparatory Year for international students, preparatory programmes at other Russian universities, and graduates of other universities who have studied at least one semester in an HSE undergraduate or master’s programme.

A 10% scholarship is offered to Summer University graduates.

The scholarships mentioned above cannot be combined: you can use only one of them. They are valid throughout the entire period of study at HSE if the student meets certain conditions.

The scholarships are not available for the programmes that enrol only fee-paying students. However, the programmes might also offer their own scholarships. For instance, Master’s programme in Prototyping Future Cities is currently inviting early bird applications. Applicants with strong portfolios and interview results will be eligible for a 20% discount.
