HSE One of Four Russian Universities in THE Top-100 Subject Rankings
National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) was the sole Russian academic institution to appear on the ranking’s Top-100 for 'Business and Economics', holding the 83rd spot.
The ranking primarily aims at assessing universities’ scientific and academic potential. Four Russian universities appeared in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking for various sectoral and subject areas in 2016, of which three are participants in Project 5-100.
Furthermore, another participant in Project 5-100, MIPT, was the only Russian institution to appear on the ranking’s ‘Physical Sciences’ table (ranking 78th). Two Russian universities appeared on the ranking’s ‘Computer Sciences’ table – ITMO (56th) and MSU (43rd), respectively. Also, MSU took 66th place on the ‘Arts & Humanities’ table.
‘For the second year in a row, HSE has appeared in the Top-100 for sector and subject areas, thus fulfilling its obligation to boost the competitiveness of Russian universities on the global academic market as per Project 5-100 and the Order of the President of the Russian Federation on enhancing the global draw of Russian education,’ said Irina Karelina, HSE’s Director of Strategic Planning.
The Times Higher Education (THE) rating assesses academic institutions in eight key subject areas – ‘Business & Economics’, ‘Computer Sciences’, ‘Clinical, Pre-clinical & Health’, ‘Physical Sciences’, ‘Engineering & Technology’, ‘Life Sciences’, ‘Social Sciences’, and ‘Arts & Humanities’.
This year HSE University rose six positions to take 17th place in the QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Ranking (QS EECA).

An official hand off ceremony was held earlier at the University of Surrey, which hosted the event this year.
