The competitive advantage of the proposed program is the unique combination of a qualified team of teachers from Russia (HSE University), Germany (Kiel), Switzerland (Bern) and Spain (University of Barcelona, IELPO LL.M.) with a team of leading practitioners in the field of trade policy from international organizations (WTO, UNCTAD) and Russian practitioners in this area (Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, WTO Expertise Center). Such combination is unique not only in Russia, but also at the international level.

Professional Activities and Competencies of Programme Graduates

Graduates of this program are prepared to work in different organizations (public and international, commercial and non-profit), companies (private-public, private, international), branches and representative offices of global companies, including trade, manufacturing, investment structures and also in technology companies and scientific organizations in various industries and countries.

A graduate of this master's program should have the skills to apply trade policy tools, taking into account the theoretical aspects of the relations between the implementation of managerial decisions at the microeconomic level and the effects at the level of national economy and integration associations; possess the technique of international negotiations, knowledge of English language, thus ensuring an internationally competitive high level of education.

Programme Modules

The first year actually forms a single comprehensive level of competence among students, increases and reformats knowledge in the field of trade policy, as well as the system of economic regulation at the international and national levels. Particular attention is paid to the study of general economic disciplines: macro-, microeconomics and econometrics; disciplines on international trade and trade policy ("International Trade Regulation in Goods and Services", "National Regulation of Business by Means of Trade Policy Measures"). In addition to compulsory subjects, elective courses are provided (for example, "Trade Policy within the Frame of Economy 4.0", "Legal Aspects of International Trade", etc.). It is also supposed to teach the basics of research work for conducting analysis and forecasting in the field of international trade policy.

The profiling for the creation of a modern specialist in the field of trade policy is the next level (second year of study), which is aimed at the formation of special professional competencies either in the theoretical or practical areas of trade and foreign economic policy, which fully corresponds to the approaches used in most foreign universities. Among the second-year courses: "Economic and Regulatory Conditions for Foreign Companies Operating in the EU", "Trade Policy and Competitiveness of Sectors of Economy", etc. There is also a research seminar dedicated to the analysis of foreign economic policy.

Options for Students with Disabilities

This degree programme of HSE University is adapted for students with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities. Special assistive technology and teaching aids are used for collective and individual learning of students with SEN and disabilities.
