Семенов Дмитрий Сергеевич

17 августа трагически ушел из жизни заведующий проектно-учебной лабораторией «Развитие университетов» Института образования, помощник ректора ВШЭ Дмитрий Семенов. Ему был 31 год.

Трагедия произошла на юге Тайланда, где Дмитрий проводил отпуск. По сообщению местных властей, в автомобиль Тойота Ярис, где он находился вместе со своим другом, 32-летним выпускником ВШЭ Иваном Сорокиным, врезался пикап. Оба они погибли на месте.

Дмитрий Семенов – выпускник ВШЭ, в 2007 году окончил бакалавриат, в 2009 году – магистратуру факультета политологии. Его научной специализацией стали исследования в области высшего образования, и лаборатория «Развитие университетов» под его руководством превратилась в одно из ключевых проектно-аналитических подразделений Института образования ВШЭ.

Он был автором ярких научных статей, участвовал в оригинальных исследовательских проектах, охотно давал комментарии в СМИ. Осенью в издательстве Palgrave выйдет книга о трансформациях высшего образования в странах бывшего СССР, одним из авторов которой он является.

Уравновешенный и интеллигентный человек, дотошный исследователь и талантливый преподаватель, внимательный коллега и надежный товарищ – таким он останется в нашей памяти.

Dear Dmitry's father, mother and sister

Dear Daria

I am writing few lines to share my sadness about the tragedy we are all living. I can only imagine how impossible can be for you living these moments, how frustrated your hearts can be in these days. My hearth is broken; and I can only offer my prays for Dmitry and for asking God to sustain and alleviate your desperation a little bit. 

The meeting with Dima has been for me one of most important, positive surprise in the last years, both from a professional and personal point of view. I appreciated how clever was him, and how much talent he had in his professional activity. His dedication to the creation of the research centre was incredible, and so was the capacity of working not only for himself, but for his colleagues, his university and his country. I will never forget the few days that we spent together in Moscow - I was sincerely surprised about his  big, sincere passion for the initiative of the research centre. We had great discussions in those days and in the subsequent weeks. After my visit I wrote him: "My real great pleasure is that I also found some friends there in Moscow, who are taking their responsibilities very seriously for improving the economy and society where they live. And this is an attempt that I consider as  a key priority for my professional life." I will be always grateful to Dima for having involved me in his adventure.

On the personal side, we immediately had great feeling. It is incredible to see how a friendship can be built in few time: the meeting with Dima is certainly one case for me when such intense friendship did happen. 

I will continue my prays to God in this very sad moment. I hope that you can accept my few words as a sign of respect and company (although from the very far Italy). 

Dasha, I hope we will meet soon for one event in the next future. We will cry together, and we will continue to be friends and colleagues.

I am so, so sad. This is just terrible, terrible news. Such a beautiful, kind man, with such a bright future. Please give my sincere condolences to his family and all his many friends and colleagues at HSE. This is so shocking. I loved that guy—so many wonderful discussions at Stanford.
