Regulation of Parking: Optimal Size of Parking Spot
In this paper, I present two models of effective allocation of parking space in an economy with two types of cars. Cars differ in length (short and long), in frequency of arrival and in the utility of drivers of vehicles of different types. In the first case, I consider the parking system with two types of parking slots and with the ability to park only in the place corresponding to the length of the car. In the second case, the parking space consists of identical slots of greater length, and the parking regulator allows the cars to occupy slots regardless of the car type. As a result, I derive the conditions under which utility will be maximized in each case.
