More than 500 People Have Already Gotten Vaccinated against Measles
Since February 19, HSE community members have been able to get vaccinated against measles. All students, faculty, and staff, including foreign citizens, can get vaccinated for free. Remember—measles is an extremely dangerous and contagious disease that can only be prevented by getting vaccinated. There is still time to get vaccinated: the vaccination period has now been extended by one day to include February 22.
On Friday, February 22 you can get vaccinated at the following locations from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM:
- 11 Myasnitskaya
- 20 Myasnitskaya
‘HSE arranged this opportunity for community members to get vaccinated on orders from Rospotrebnadzor (Russia’s Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protections and Welfare), which were prompted by a registered case of measles on HSE campus,’ says Elena Kakabadze, Head of the HSE Office of Staff and Student Benefits. ‘Vaccines are being administered by staff of City Clinic № 5. At first it was expected that only one team of medical staff would administer the vaccine, but at the initiative of HSE, an additional team of medical staff was promptly enlisted to administer vaccines at an additional location, 11 Myasnitskaya, so that as many people as possible could be accommodated.’
By the morning of February 21, more than 500 employees and students had gotten vaccinated, and there remain still many more who wish to get vaccinated as well. HSE News Service talked with HSE community members about why they came to get vaccinated, and what they think about being able to do it right here on campus (and again, we repeat, you can join them!).

‘Why did I get vaccinated? It’s simple. I asked my parents if I was vaccinated as a child or not. They said, yes, I probably was since all children were vaccinated, but it was difficult to track down my old immunization records. If there is a problem, then we need to somehow solve it. So today I went and got vaccinated. I didn’t think of it early, because, to be honest, I hadn’t heard about it. But this year we received the order from Rospotrebnadzor, information has been made available on the HSE website, and we’ve been alerted via email about it. When you receive an alert, you can take action. So it’s a question of making sure everyone is informed. The vaccine was not scary or painful. It only took a long time, because there were a lot of people there who also wanted to get vaccinated.’
