From October 7 - November 12, 2016 a school for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students organized by the International Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences was held in Germany. The school was dedicated to issues of memorialization and commemorating victims of terror and was led by the Centre’s Director Oleg Budnitskii. The trip was organized with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

On November 4th, 2016, students from many countries took part in an online broadcast to discuss the final stage of the US presidential campaign 2016. The event was organized by the Global Campus Network at Ryerson University, Toronto. Two students from HSE's Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design delivered their report from the HSE Media Centre.

The Microsoft Hackschool for students was held in Moscow on October 14-15. Microsoft experts and Microsoft partner students helped identify the best projects during the event that could change students’ lives.

HSE and East-China Normal University (ECNU) have signed a new student exchange agreement expanding the range of opportunities for student mobility in all areas of studies, including social studies, humanities, and philosophy, as well as computer science, mathematics, and physics. The agreement was signed as part of the ECNU delegation’s visit headed by Tong Shijun, chairman of the ECNU University Council, to HSE.

A team from the HSE Faculty of Law, including 3rd and 4th–year law students Alexander Zhdanovich, Ksenia Solovieva, Gayane Gulian and Yulia Dragunova, took second place at the regional finals of the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot Court Competition, recently held in Poland, Warsaw. Gayane Gulian was also awarded a prize as the second runner-up in the ‘best speaker’ category.

On October 4, a lecture and business game were organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and held at HSE Saint Petersburg.

Thousands of learners now have the opportunity to obtain free certificates for taking HSE courses on Coursera.

On Sunday, October 16, 2016, the Moscow Subregional Contest of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) will take place at HSE. The Faculty of Computer Science will serve as a contest hosts for the second year in a row. To take part in the quarter finals, a team of three students must be formed and registered before October 9 (23:59:59).

Anastasia Denisova, 2nd-year student of the MA programme in Business Informatics, and Evgeny Golota, 2nd-year student of the MA programme in e-business took part in the summer school ‘Alternative Economic and Monetary Systems’ that was held July-August 2016 in Vienna, Austria.

A Russian team made up of Economics & Statistics students of the HSE Faculty of Economics took part in the 3rd International Statistics Olympiad, held in Tehran, Iran, from August 7 – 11, 2016. This was the first time our students had participated in the contest, and they took second place, losing only to the host team, which consisted of the winners of a national student test in statistics.

Second-year students on the History BA programme at HSE Perm have gone on an archaeological expedition as part of their internship. This year, HSE students have joined geology students from Oxford University on an excavation at Mokinski burial grounds.

On July 9-12 the international student summer school was held at the Institute of Fundamental and Frontier Sciences at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Chengdu. Konstantin Arutyunov, Professor at the School of Electronic Engineering, guest speaker, presented a report on the fundamental limitations on and prospects for electronics development.
