The Day of Languages of the Caucasus (Journee des langues du Caucase) was held on March 28th in Lyon. Michael Daniel, Professor at the School of Linguistics and Leading Research Fellow at the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory presented an overview of Caucasian languages: he spoke about the language families in the region, about those languages endemic to the Caucasus region, and about the typological features of Northeast Caucasian or Nakho-Dagestanian languages.
Nina Dobrushina, Head of the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory, spoke about the moods in Daghestanian languages. In her report she covered different types of motivation and corresponding moods, morphosyntactic structure of volition verbs, and the semantics of the optative mood. Special attention was paid to the surreal mood and conditional structures.
