PhD holders’ careers analysis shows that getting an academic degree is no longer enough for a career in research. The chances of getting a permanent job, of getting a good position at a university or research centre depend not only on one’s academic degree but also on one’s experience, competencies and portfolio.

October 21, Anna A. Mironova (research intern at Lab) successfully defending his Ph.D. thesis "Private intergenerational transfers in different types of households".
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Centre for Longitudinal Studies at UCL Institute of Education. The studentship is funded for three years from January 2017 and is based on one of 4 projects which relate to investigating measurement error and non-response in longitudinal surveys. Deadline is 11th November 2016.
On October 20, Alexandra Sivova (MSc in Psychology at HSE and TiU), took part in the "Culture Matters" research seminar with the report on "Group-based pride and out-group attitudes: the role of security of national identity and intergroup comparison".

A lecture by Prof. Dr. Bernd Weber (The Center for Economics and Neuroscience, Universität Bonn) entitled: "Influence of food claims on valuation an consumption – insights from neuroscience." was recently given on the premises of the economic faculty of the HSE.
The Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) is looking for Research Assistants for its Moscow and St. Petersburg offices. Bachelor, master, or doctoral students reading for a degree in sociology, political science, or economics are particularly welcome to apply. Successful candidates will sign a part-time contract with the LCSR for 20 hours a week.
