An international team of researchers including scientists at HSE University investigated how bilingual individuals associate time with space. It turns out that in both their first and second languages, people associate the past with the left side of space and the future with the right. In fact, the higher the proficiency in a second language, the more pronounced this relationship becomes. The study findings have been published in Scientific Reports.

HSE scientists have developed an algorithm to protect digital images, significantly enhancing the security of multimedia data on the internet. The algorithm embeds watermarks into images; these watermarks are invisible to the human eye and capable of resisting various attacks. The results of the study have been published in Computers and Electrical Engineering.

The Superstripes 2024 Conference (Ischia, Italy, June 24-29, 2024) continued the successful tradition of international scientific meetings started by the first Stripes Conference, held in Rome in 1996. The event is dedicated to the growing interest of the international scientific community in the emergence of new phenomena related to complexity in quantum matter. The ninth ICSM2024-ICQMT2024 International Conference (Fethiye, Turkey, April 27 – May 4, 2024) became an interdisciplinary forum for fruitful exchange of knowledge about the latest experimental results and theoretical achievements in the field of superconductivity, magnetism, innovative advanced materials, quantum science and technology, and their applications, including related technologies.

Scientists at HSE University and MIPT have developed a supercomputer-based method to model fluid flows at atomistic scales making it possible to describe the emergence of turbulence. The researchers used the supercomputers cHARISMa and Desmos to compute the flow of a fluid consisting of several hundred million atoms. This method is already being used to simulate the flow of liquid-metal lead coolant in a nuclear reactor. The paper has been published in The International Journal of High Performance Computing Applications.
