The Memory and Motor Control

 

Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of cognitive neuroscience.

Participants are encouraged to pursue their own research in parallel with working at the Centre for Cognition & Decision Making (CDM) by carrying on research projects in two broad areas: Memory and Motor Control.


The job involves:

- To work under the direct supervision of Dr. Matteo Feurra

- Performing research on Motor Control processes (e.g. action observation, motor imagery, grasping action processes and cortical motor mapping, sensory-motor integration in cognitive functions)

- Research on neurocognitive structure of human memory and executive control with a focus on working and long-term memory processes (e.g. recognition memory processes, episodic memory short term memory).

- Research on genetic influence (the BDNF factor) on cortical plasticity.

- Writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals.

- Some teaching as well as public presentations of candidate’s own research are also encouraged.

- Participation in organization of the events and other contribution to the Lab’s development.

The Lab offers access to Multichannel EEG system (128-channel EEG BRAINAMP DC), eye-tracking (Eye-tracker SMI RED), 2 TMS Magventure (MagPro X100) with neuronavigation, Transcranial Electrical Stimulation system by Enobio Starstim, EMS Brainstim, DS5 Digitimer and access to MEG (more information: School of Psychology).


Requirements:

- a PhD from an international research university in such fields as: neuroscience, psychology, medicine, physics, biology or applied mathematics.

- a background in TMS and/or tDCS and/or fMRI and/or MEG/and/or multi-channel EEG/MEG/ recordings and data analysis.

- ability to work in a team.

- fluent English.

- relevant experience is an asset although not required.

- high motivation to conduct high-quality research publishable in quality international peer-reviewed journals.

The Neuroeconomics Group

 

The Higher School of Economics Centre for Cognition & Decision Making (Moscow) invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of neuroeconomics at The Neuroeconomics Group.


The features & the advantages of the job:

  • The postholder will work under the supervision of Prof. Vasily Klucharev.
  • The postholder will have an advantage of being able  to pursue his or her own research in parallel with working on the Group's research projects, e.g.:

- Neuroeconomics and social influence, including neuroscience of persuasion, cognitive dissonance, etc.

- Neurobiology of cognitive dissonance, trust and risk-taking, temporal discounting, etc.

The Neuroimaging Methods Group

 

Higher School of Economics (HSE, Moscow) is pleased to announce a new post-doctoral position in The Neuroimaging Methods Group. The focus for this post is on real-time EEG acquisition, analysis and development of novel techniques for neurofeedback and brain-computer interface applications aiming to minimize the feedback signal presentation delay and to improve the performance of non-invasive interfaces by developing advanced signal processing and machine learning algorithms. We expect the familiarity with EEG recording process and sound technical skills along with the interest and ability to conduct his or her own experiments and maintain the hardware. There is also an opportunity to work with invasively recorded multichannel ECoG data and to develop techniques  for recovery of the fine grain movement parameters from this data.

The laboratory is a structural part of the HSE’s Centre for Cognition & Decision Making with collaboration opportunities within Russia and internationally. Research facilities include multi-channel EEG, navigated TMS-EEG, behavioral and eye-tracking equipment, as well as local access to MEG, fMRI. The Neuroimaging Group operates in close collaboration with Moscow MEG Centre, Skolkovo Institute of Technology, Yandex company, University of Southern California Medical School and Electrical Engineering department, Aalto University, Finland.

Requirements:

  • Eligible candidates should hold a PhD degree in Electrical engineering, Comuter Science, Neuroscience or Physics.

  • Familiarity with basic signal processing methods and appreciation of real-time processing constraints
  • Demonstrated familiarity with software development in at least of the following environments: Matlab, Python, R, C/C++
  • Knowledge of the modern software packages implementing the deep leaning methodologyS is a plus
  • Fluent English (knowledge of Russian is not required)

The Theoretical Neuroscience Group (TNG)


Higher School of Economics (HSE, Moscow) is pleased to announce a new post-doctoral post at the Theoretical Neuroscience Group (TNG) that applies computational and mathematical approaches to understanding neural function and cognition. Research interests of the TNG at the Centre for Cognition and Decision Making are wide ranging, carried out in collaboration with the experimental labs at the Center. Current research topics include include computational psychiatry, computational neuroeconomics, information processing in neurons and circuits, as well as role of oscillations in cognition. The candidate will have the opportunity to further define and expand the Group’s research programme.

We are seeking highly qualified and motivated candidate with backgrounds in quantitative disciplines: applied mathematics, physics, computer science or engineering.  Knowledge of biology, neuroscience and ability to work with data is highly desired.

Candidates will be trained in model building, analysis and will be offered advanced training in neuroscience and cognitive psychology. Candidates will have an opportunity to develop independent research projects and collaborations under the direction of the group leading scientists.

The TNG is a structural part of the HSE’s Centre for Cognition & Decision Making with ample collaboration opportunities within the Centre with other research groups, both within Russia and internationally. This new international group is tightly linked with the Group for Neural Theory at the Ecole Normale Superior in Paris, where research internships and visiting positions can be made available.

The Neurodynamics Group


Higher School of Economics (HSE, Moscow) is pleased to announce a new post-doctoral position in The Neurodynamics Group. The research focus is on the investigation of a relation between task-specific neuronal activity and ongoing/resting state neuronal dynamics. This will be studied in different sensory, motor and cognitive tasks to identify general mechanisms responsible for such modulation. In order to take into account multifaceted nature of the neuronal processing in the human brain, our studies will focus on the interplay between local and global neuronal dynamics measured at different spatial and temporal scales. The complexity of neuronal interactions will be assessed with multimodal approaches including EEG, MEG and a combination of TMS/TDCS with EEG.

The Group is a structural part of the HSE’s Centre for Cognition & Decision Making with collaboration opportunities within Russia and internationally. Research facilities include multi-channel EEG, navigated TMS-EEG, behavioral and eye-tracking equipment, as well as local access to MEG, fMRI. Cognitive Control, Communication and Perception Laboratory

Higher School of Economics (HSE, Moscow) is pleased to announce a new post-doctoral post at The Cognitive Control, Communication and Perception Laboratory. The postholder will have an advantage of being able to further define and expand the laboratory’s research programme. Potential topics include (but are not limited to): neural dynamics of language comprehension and production, automaticity and top-down control in communication, sensory-motor integration in cognitive functions, embodied cognition, neurocognitive bases of numeracy, interactions between domain-specific and domain-general cognitive systems, neurobiological mechanisms of language acquisition, studies of communication deficits (e.g. aphasia) etc.

 

The Laboratory is a structural part of the HSE’s Centre for Cognition & Decision Making with ample collaboration opportunities within the Centre with other research groups, both within Russia and internationally. Centre for Cognition & Decision Making (CDM) at the Higher School of Economics  (HSE) in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for multiple postdoctoral research positions in the field of cognitive neuroscience. The CDM is a young, ambitious and rapidly developing research centre, which offers excellent research environment and facilities, and pursues research in a number of cognitive science/neuroscience areas. We are interested in hearing from candidates with experience and interest in cognitive neuroscience/experimental psychology of language and communication, memory, attention and executive systems, decisions making and neuroeconomics, motor system, spatial and numerical cognition, neuroimaging methods, computational modelling and neural dynamics. Applicants in these and other domains of cognitive research as well as those with cross-disciplinary and cross-domain background will be given full consideration.

 

The postholders will work under the supervision of the Centre's PIs and conduct research in the area of cognitive neuroscience (such as those specified above) as well as engage in a wide range of interdisciplinary collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally. Major tasks of the postholders will be to carry out scientific research in collaboration with line manager and other team members as well as to collaborate with other CDM scientists in exploring the mind and brain using various methodologies. The postholders will also collaborate with support, technical, administrative, and research staff at the CDM to provide support to the Centre’s day-to-day operation. Requirements:

 

  • The job involves research of brain underpinnings of human behaviours, actions and cognitive functions. Ideal candidates will therefore have experience in in cognitive neuroscience research techniques, such as TMS, fMRI, MEG, EEG, etc.
  • Eligible candidates should hold a PhD or similar degree (e.g. RF candidateship) in a relevant discipline, including (but not limited to) psychology, neuroinformatics or neuroscience. We also expect:
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Fluent English
  • Demonstrated ability to produce scientific publications
  • Teaching/supervision experience is an asset although not required
