Course Syllabus
Abstract
AI literacy is one of the digital competencies embedded in all HSE University degree programmes. It concerns the use of digital technologies and information-handling tools to meet personal, educational and professional needs and to support collaboration in digital environments, with due regard for fundamental security principles and ethical and legal standards.
All first-year undergraduate students take an independent assessment of AI Literacy to demonstrate that they have attained this competency. The independent AI examination is administered using proctoring procedures and lasts 60 minutes. It comprises a test component and a practical component.
The final result is converted to a 1-10 scale. Scores below 4 are rounded down by discarding the decimal part; scores of 4 or above are rounded to the nearest whole number. Failure to obtain a passing result in the Independent AI Literacy Assessment within the prescribed timeframe will be treated as a failure to fulfil the programme requirements.
Learning Objectives
- To assess students' readiness to undertake advanced professionally oriented courses; their ability to search for information and data, interpret and create instructions, interact with others in digital environments, and protect their digital identity.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Searches for, aggregates, analyzes, selects, and structures relevant information, verifies its reliability, and uses it appropriately; Follows existing instructions, analyzes them, and creates new instructions or corrects errors in existing ones; Interacts with others safely and ethically using digital technologies; Protects their digital identity, personal digital space, and digital devices; Uses and maintains digital devices and technologies.
Assessment Elements
- Theoretical sectionIn the theoretical section, the student will complete 10 tasks covering: - searching for, analyzing, creating, and managing information; - creating, following, analyzing, and modifying instructions; - digital interaction, digital identity, digital etiquette, and digital law; - protecting one’s digital identity, devices, and data; - opportunities presented by big data. It is recommended to complete this section within 13 minutes.
- Practical sectionIn the practical section, the student will complete 4 tasks focused on: - using modern digital environments effectively; - applying various information search methods across diverse sources (including academic databases, file repositories, semantic search tools, and reference materials); - leveraging contemporary office productivity software to organize their own work. It is recommended to complete this section within 47 minutes. The total exam duration is 60 minutes.
