Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is designed to introduce students to the study of human behavior and cultural practices in digital environments. It explores how technology shapes social interactions, communication patterns, and identity formation online. Students will examine various digital platforms, such as social media, virtual communities, and mobile applications, to understand their impact on society. The course also covers ethical considerations related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and digital ethics.

Learning Objectives

  • To introduce the principles and main theoretical concepts of digital anthropology to students and to provide them with tools for analysis of human interaction in digital environment as well as human interaction with digital technologies
  • To teach students to use various methods of collecting data in digital space and interpreting the results using anthropological resources
  • To familiarize students with cultural differences in using digital media and everyday practices in the digital field
  • To show new trends in digital anthropology involving mixed methods and online ethnography to deal with topical issues
