Course Syllabus
Abstract
As a result of studying the discipline, students should know: basic concepts, categories, institutions of public law of several BRICS countries and some Western jurisdictions; specifics of social relations in foreign countries, regulated by the norms of public law; constitutional regulation of the status of the individual, constitutional principles of economic, social, political systems of society; peculiarities of formation, development and existence of the main legal families; state-territorial structure and the existing models of organisation and functioning of the public law in foreign countries, the state-territorial structure and existing models of organisation and functioning of the system of supreme and local bodies, of state power and administration in a number of foreign countries. The course also covers a general understanding of constitution and state theory, providing students with the conceptual tools to make comparisons between different systems. As a result, students will gain an in-depth knowledge of the methods of comparative constitutional law. Recommended knowledge of the general theory of state and law, history of the national State and law, history of state and law of foreign countries, constitutional, administrative, financial law.
Learning Objectives
- To develop students' systematic knowledge of the legal systems of the BRICS countries and individual Western jurisdictions, their characteristics, similarities, and differences, as well as to acquire practical skills in analyzing and applying the public law norms of these states.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- analyzes the legal systems and selected legal institutions of the BRICS countries
- highlights the markers of constitutional identity in the constitutional legislation of the BRICS countries and certain Western jurisdictions
- describes the trends in the development of the doctrine of legal traditions and relates the legal systems of the BRICS countries and certain Western jurisdictions to legal traditions
- defines the markers of the constitutional identity of certain countries
- analyzes the features of the territorial and state structure
- formulates a human rights standard, taking into account regional specifics

- 1. Introduction to the discipline. Basic concepts, goals, objectives and methodology of the course.
- 2. Constitutional and legal characteristics of Brazil and India.
- 3. Constitutional and legal characteristics of the People's Republic of China.
- 4. Constitutional and legal characteristics of the Republic of South Africa and Egypt.
- 5. Constitutional and legal characteristics of Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
- 6. Constitutional and legal characteristics of France and Italy.
- 7. Challenges for the UK legal system in the context of Brexit and domestic political turbulence
