Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course “Crypto Finance” explores the role of cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance (DeFi) in modern financial markets. It provides an in-depth analysis of how digital assets impact corporate finance, investment strategies, and regulatory frameworks. The course curriculum also covers capital-raising mechanisms (ICO, IEO, IIO, launchpads), the launch of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, and the implications of stablecoins and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) for global financial stability. The course examines regulatory approaches to crypto markets, including compliance challenges and the evolving legal landscape for DeFi. Students will also study major financial crises in the crypto industry, and crypto lending platforms, alongside market manipulation tactics and systemic risks. Additionally, the course covers the long-term prospects of Web3 and digital finance, including tokenization, decentralized governance, and the integration of blockchain technology into traditional financial systems. The course is designed for students specializing in corporate finance, investment banking, and financial strategy, this course equips them with the knowledge needed to assess the opportunities and risks associated with crypto finance in institutional settings.

Learning Objectives

• Examine the economic foundations of digital assets and their impact on corporate finance and investment strategies
• Study global approaches to cryptocurrency regulation, including compliance challenges, AML/KYC requirements, and DeFi oversight
• Compare centralized and algorithmic stablecoins, analyze their risks, and explore the implications of central bank digital currencies for financial systems
• Explore tokenization, decentralized governance, and blockchain applications in corporate and institutional finance

Assessment Elements

• Analytical Report
  Every student chooses one of top100 cryptocurrency, explores its whitepaper, investigates media, analises market behaviour and writes a brief report about it.
• Case Study
  Students in groups solve different cases (crypto crises, evaluation of crypto projects, M&A DeFi with traditional economy etc), and prepare presentations with their results.
• Final Essay
