Course Syllabus
Abstract
The purpose of the English Language course is to develop students' foreign language communicative competence to at least a B2+ / C1 level on the CEFR scale. It is designed for first- and second-year students whose initial proficiency is at the A2 threshold level. Through comprehensive training, the course aims to equip learners with the advanced skills necessary for academic and professional communication. Successful completion should enable students to obtain an international certificate, verifying their readiness and ability to study in English-taught higher education programs abroad.
Learning Objectives
- The goal of the “English for general communication purposes” course is to develop students’ foreign‑language communicative competence at level B2+/C1 (CEFR)—specifically linguistic, sociolinguistic, sociocultural, discursive, and strategic competencies — as well as to foster the academic skills required for using English in academic, scientific, and professional settings, for further studies at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, and for conducting research in a given field.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- The student knows and uses active vocabulary on the topic under study, can compose a structured monologue on a given topic, and can perform reading, listening, and written tasks in the appropriate format

Assessment Elements
- Written assignmentsCompleting at least one test in each of the following areas - reading, listening, lexical and grammatical skills, and writing - is required
- SpeakingThe task includes two elements: delivering a monologue on a given topic and participating in a dialogic conversation (answering questions).
- Independent workStudents complete assignments in various formats: independently at home, in person in the classroom, etc.
- Final assessmentFinal test in two parts - Listening test - Writing test (writing a pargraph)
