Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course aims to introduce students to approaches to the study of international and intranational conflicts, as well as the specific development and progression of conflicts in the Middle East, Far East, and Southeast Asia. Structuring the course through specific examples from Asian and African countries, examining conflicts, their parties and interests, the subjective perceptions of leaders, and objective factors, allows students to develop general knowledge, develop critical analysis skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the underlying sociopolitical and economic trends in Asia and the Middle East. This course meets the requirements and facilitates the acquisition of competencies outlined by educational standards in the following areas: International Relations, Asian and African Studies, Regional Studies, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Journalism.
Learning Objectives
- Acquiring and consolidating knowledge of the main theoretical research approaches to international and intra-national conflicts
- Acquiring and consolidating knowledge of the main triggers of interstate and intra-state conflicts in the MENA and Asia-Pacific region in the post-bipolar period
- Developing a deep understanding of the main regional economic and political trends in the MENA and Asia-Pacific region
Expected Learning Outcomes
- • Operates on various approaches to conflict research and is familiar with existing conflict classifications
- Describes the general context of global socio-political dynamics in the post-bipolar period, within which the main conflicts in the MENA and Asia-Pacific region arose
- Identifies the main causes of socio-political instability in the MENA region after 2011
- Identifies the general characteristics and trends inherent in territorial disputes in the Asia-Pacific region
