Course Syllabus

Abstract

Students will learn how to develop analytical materials using methods of political science and sociological analysis. Students will study the main practices of political socialization in modern Russia and the world, evaluate the effectiveness of political socialization by various political institutions.

Learning Objectives

  • The aim of the course is to give the students knowledge on the theory of political socialization, methodology of researches of different kinds of political socialization, including mass media and mass culture. During the course students learn to analyze the effectiveness of practices of political socialization.

  • Executes applied analysis of the political phenomena and political processes - by using political science methods - and in support of practical decision making process.
  • Chooses research methods appropriate for resolving the professional tasks.
  • finds, defines and uses the information from different sources which required for solving of research and professional problems (including the system approach)

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Final written examination paper
    Description: At the end of the course, students will be required to present a research project exploring political socialization practices in Russia. Students will first present the project in class and then submit the project text.
  • non-blocking Activity in the classroom
    In-class activity during seminars: Students are expected to participate in group discussions. Attendance alone is not considered an activity.
  • non-blocking Project
    At the beginning of the course, students will be given several assignments from which to choose. These assignments must be submitted two weeks before the session. Projects require selecting an appropriate research methodology, developing a research program, and analyzing data for individual project components.
  • non-blocking Participation in discussions
    Students will be given reading and discussion material. They are required to read the texts and offer a certain number of comments.
