Course Syllabus
Abstract
Film is omnivorous, incorporating into itself literature, painting, still photography, and music. The discourse around it reflects this omnivorous character, often borrowing concepts from different arts. In this course, we will look at the relationship between film and other media, grounding our discussion both in theory and in specific films.
Learning Objectives
- use concepts from film theory, media theory and sound studies to analyze relationships between film and other media
- formulate a researched argument about a specific encounter between film and another medium
Expected Learning Outcomes
- analyze on-screen dance using concepts from film studies
- employ concepts from adaptation theory to describe the relationship between film and literature
- analyze the relationship between word and image
- analyze tactile aspects of film using concepts from film theory
