The course explores the evolution of the short story throughout the 20th century, focusing on key genres such as realism, modernism, and postmodernism. It examines the distinctive linguistic features of these genres, including narrative techniques, stylistic choices, and the role of language in shaping character, theme, and plot. Through analysis of representative works by influential authors, the course shows how the short story form adapted to cultural, social, and historical changes during the 20th century.

Assessment Elements

    The exam is in the form of a test on the materials of lectures and seminars, based on the short stories assigned for the course.
  • non-blocking Midterm test
    Assessment of knowledge of the texts of the short stories and lecture material in the format of a test of 10 questions. Performed in the classroom.
  • non-blocking Homework
    Homework tests: - ability to identify the compositional structure and genre characteristics of a text; - ability to perform stylistic analysis of a text, taking into account its purpose and audience; - ability to summarize the content of a text; - ability to create a glossary. Possible assignment options also apply to classroom work. Classroom activities are necessary for developing sustainable skills and competencies outlined in the course; assignments can be completed orally/in a discussion format, etc.
