Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course introduces students to the professional competencies in the field of language localization of digital products and multimodal texts. The course covers the full localization cycle: from analyzing cultural specificity and product internationalization to adapting software, websites, video games, advertising campaigns, comics, and audiovisual content. Special attention is paid to cross-cultural aspects, technical constraints (string length, timecodes, UI elements), and the use of modern CAT tools and AI technologies in the localization process. Students develop skills in critical analysis of source materials, selection of optimal localization strategies (transcreation, full adaptation, or standardized translation), and quality assessment of the final product.
