Course Syllabus
Abstract
The main goal of the subject is to prepare competent, highly qualified and erudite specialists in the field of economics, capable of independent professional work in accordance with modern educational standards of leading research and higher educational institutions in Russia and the world. The subject is focused on training economists-researchers who combine deep knowledge of modern economic theory with professional knowledge of economic and mathematical methods, including econometrics, methods of economic and mathematical modeling and analysis, and the ability to work with applied computer programs.
Learning Objectives
- Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - Formulate research problems — identify and articulate relevant research questions in applied economics, justify their theoretical and practical significance - Conduct independent research — plan and execute an independent research project, from formulating a research question to data collection, method selection, and analysis - Work with academic sources — critically evaluate domestic and foreign research, identify promising areas, and compile a research programme - Apply appropriate research methods — navigate various empirical and theoretical methods in applied economics and select the most suitable tools for specific research tasks - Present research findings — prepare presentation materials and deliver research results to the scientific community in the form of reports and articles - Develop critical thinking — critically appraise research methods and tools, demonstrate an innovative, open, and ethical mindset - Structure academic work — understand the logic and interrelation between different sections of research, from introduction to conclusion
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Able to organize and manage multi-party communication; able to conduct professional and research activities in an international environment
- Able to improve and develop intellectual and cultural level, build a trajectory of professional development and career
- Able to prepare analytical materials in the field of economic policy development at the macro and micro levels
