Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course aims to develop a broad range of competencies in data, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence. Particular attention is paid to the practical application of generative models to address educational, research, and everyday tasks. The course also covers core topics related to the safe and effective use of online resources, critical evaluation of information, academic use of sources, and the legal and ethical aspects of the digital environment.

Learning Objectives

  • The Digital Literacy course aims to develop students' systematic approach to using digital tools, including generative models, to improve the effectiveness of their lives, studies, and professional activities. This course teaches students how to interact with AI systems, formulate queries effectively (prompt engineering), critically evaluate their results, and integrate these tools into academic and research processes. Additionally, the course develops competencies in digital security, data management, internet technologies, legal norms, and academic ethics.
Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Safeguarding their digital identity and ensuring digital hygiene (e.g. on social networks and while browsing news feeds).
  • Utilizing contemporary means of communication to organize teamwork and interactions during the educational process (e.g. email, messengers, systems for organizing group information storage).
  • Creating, using and ensuring the functionality of their digital space (including the ability to select the necessary devices for their tasks, configure settings for their purposes, connect to required resources, protect devices and related systems and networks using correct settings, networks, and antivirus/anti-spam systems).
  • Adhering to standards of safe and ethical behaviour on the Internet (such as using app stores, distinguishing fake media messages from real ones, checking the quality of information, distinguishing a spam email from a legitimate one, telling a real website from a phishing one, and using a secure connection to websites).
  • Mastering digital tools to solve problems, utilizing information and service support sources on the web.
  • Organizing office work through contemporary office systems (including drafting documents in accordance with established standards, using spreadsheets for simple data processing and visualization, preparing presentations for reporting work results, and creating and unpacking archives).

Assessment Elements

    The project is completed in teams (in some cases, individual project submission may be required). The project's criteria and deadline are determined by the instructor and communicated to students at the beginning of the course. The deadline is strict. Submissions after the deadline are not permitted (failure to submit the project on time will result in a grade of 0, and no defense will be held).

    The content of the tasks is similar to the Independent Exam, and is conducted in the classroom or online in accordance with the Specifications of the Independent Exam in Digital Literacy for the current academic year.
  • non-blocking Classroom practical work
    In-class practical work (seminar activity) involves answering the instructor's questions and participating in problem solving. Attendance at seminars is not considered an activity and is not graded.
