Course Syllabus

Abstract

Current paradigms of language studies span, among other things, inquiries into discourse and its manifestations for diverse purposes and in diverse communities. This research seminar focuses on photodiscourse, its definition, and features. Due attention is drawn to the art and craft of photography, its history, development and compositional techniques as an effective means of visual discourse elements. Although the course is held in English, it requires a C1 level of Russian as materials are provided in Russian as well. Students will also be expected to practice photography, all tasks asking for original pictures.
