Программа дисциплины

Аннотация

The course is aimed at students who are pursuing a career of analysts, data scientists and other IT-oriented positions. The scope of the course is limited to relational databases. Upon finishing this course students should be familiar with relational database concept, be able to write simple/advanced SQL queries and apply the knowledge in the field of BI.
Цель освоения дисциплины

Цель освоения дисциплины

  • To introduce the principles of relational database systems.
  • To develop practical skills in writing SQL queries for data retrieval and manipula- tion.
  • To familiarize students with database design and normalization concepts.
  • To prepare students for analytical and professional use of SQL in real-world projects.
  • To make acquaintance with BI systems
Планируемые результаты обучения

  • Perform data modification operations (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE).
  • Apply constraints, indexes, and basic optimization techniques.
  • Use SQL for analytical tasks and reporting.
  • Use basic window functions for advanced queries.

Элементы контроля

Элементы контроля

  • неблокирующий Project 1: Database design
The student defines a coherent analytical domain, designs an entity–relationship model, converts it into a normalized PostgreSQL schema, implements the schema in SQL, and loads sufficient test or source data to demonstrate that the model works.
  • неблокирующий Project 2: SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY
Using the database developed in Project 1, the student produces a coherent analytical brief supported by a purposeful set of SQL queries. The work must go beyond syntax demonstrations: the queries should answer substantive questions and the written interpretation should distinguish evidence from speculation.
  • неблокирующий Project 3: BI Project
The student develops a decision-oriented business intelligence product based on the project database and analytical SQL. The dashboard must be designed for a specified user and decision context, present trustworthy indicators, allow useful exploration, and communicate a concise analytical story rather than a collection of unrelated charts.
