Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course 'English for the Current Social Agenda' consists of two aspects: the grammar aspect and the critical thinking aspect. The first presents a systematic picture of practical English grammar at the proficiency level; the second allows the students to enhance their vocabulary and communication skills through discussion of various topics within the current social agenda.

  • The goal of the course is to consolidate practical grammar of the English language and enhance critical thinking skills at the profficiecy level.

  • The students are able to discuss the basic features of contemporary metamodern culture. The students are supposed to master special terminology
  • The students know current theories of celebrity culture and apply relevasnt criteria to the assessment of individual celebrities
  • The students analyze the benefits and drawbacks of achievement culture in different social settings
  • The students analyze current trends in consumer behavior
  • The students master the most relevant theories of time (objective and subjective time, social and individual time, time acceleration and deceleration) and discuss the most recent cultural trends related to time experience
  • The students learn about the most recent advances in the study of emotions and identify new cultural trends related to emotions
  • The students discuss intellect as a type of cultural and social capital
  • The students discuss the role of creativity in everyday life
  • The students discuss the most relevant ideas that have been developed within Ecological Thinking recently
