Аннотация

This is an elective course for students interested in comprehensive study of Russian policy towards the Asian countries. It is focused on brief history and current stage of political and economic relations between Russia and Asian countries. There are now no doubts that Asian region will shape the global international order in the 21st century, though there is still a substantial number of political and economic problems, as well as potential military conflicts in the region. While Asia is lacking a solid multilateral cooperation system to ensure mutual security, there exist systemic forces that generally contribute to peace and stable economic development in the region. Besides, Asian states’ overall attitude toward Russia is much better than in Europe, thus giving Moscow more opportunities for developing mutual bilateral and multilateral cooperation in this region. The key emphasis in the course is made on Russian ties with key countries of such Asian regions as: Northeast Asia (including: China, Japan, RK, DPRK), Southeast Asia (ASEAN countries), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan) and South Asia (India).Prerequisites: students, who are not enrolled in the Cross-Cultural Studies of Asia and Africa in the Context of International Relations degree program, must successfully pass (8-10 out of 10 points) the entry test for basic knowledge in international relations in the studied region during the first class.
