Abstract

The course focuses on operations in global supply chains with a focus on transportation and warehousing. The course examines the organization of cargo movement between countries and regions, the specifics of transport and warehouse infrastructure in international logistics, as well as the impact of distances, capacity, restrictions on modes of transport and storage conditions on transportation, handling and inventory placement in global supply chains. Students will get acquainted with the main types of transportation in international supply chains, the principles of forming routes and delivery schedules, approaches to choosing and combining modes of transport. The impact of contractual terms, requirements for international transportation and basic operations of foreign economic activity, including key points of customs clearance, on the timing and cost of deliveries when working with foreign counterparties is analyzed separately. Special attention is paid to the organization of warehouse processes: warehouse zoning, selection of technologies and equipment for acceptance, storage, assembly and shipment, as well as the specifics of the functioning of warehouse infrastructure in the maintenance of international flows. The course examines practical situations and examples, including calculated ones, showing how operational decisions affect global supply chains.

  • Design a proactive resilience strategy using a combination of inventory buffers, multi-sourcing, nearshoring/friendshoring, and flexible transport contracts
  • Explain the mechanism of counter-sanctions instruments (e.g., parallel imports, import substitution) and evaluate their operational feasibility, including legal, financial, and logistical constraints
